Jerome Pink
In 2004 Jerome began climbing and was instantly and irreversibly addicted. During his first year he trained indoors as often as possible and gradually began attempts at sending outdoor problems. Jerome spent the duration of 2006 in Canada and climbed in such amazing areas as the Red River Gorge and Rumney. After returning to Australia he began a great deal of bouldering, mostly around Canberra. As far as sport and trad climbing go, Jerome has been fortunate to climb at Nowra, the Blue Mountains, Mount Arapiles, the Grampians, Booroomba and other small crags around the ACT.
At the beginning of 2009 Jerome had planned a climbing trip around Asia and the United States but was unfortunatly diagnosed with cancer. Jerome has since moved to Melbourne for treatment and spends most of his free time trying to climb as often as his schedule and condition allows.
Recently Jerome has been working on a video in which he is exploring and demonstrating the limits of engaging in this sport while receiving chemotherapy. In the video with the help of a few friends Jerome will be travelling to many of the climbing areas that he loved to visit when he was healthy and testing the limits of his new condition. He hopes that through this he can explore the reasons why we climb and how it affects our everyday lives.
“For me climbing is such an important driving force that even during a difficult time when I am forced to reduce the amount that I am able to do, it is still one of the things that I love to do most and one of the things that I am determined never to give up. In the end the message I hope to portray is to always do the things you love no matter what the situation, because in the end they are the things that are worth fighting for.”
