Lactic Factory Casual Comp 2009

The Lactic Factory
The Flashed & Uncarved Block Casual Comp 2009

Format – The Lactic Factory Casual Format! Every Friday for 14 weeks, 3 new problems will be set and identified as competition problems; One easy problem(A), one medium(B) and one hard one©. You as the competitor have 7 days to climb these problems while they’re eligible. After the week is up you will no longer get credit for completing the problem. If you manage to complete any the problems you can tick yourself off on the posted leader board in the gym. The climber with the most ticks in any 7 week block at the end wins! The change to the format this year is that at the end of the 14 weeks you can cross off your worst 4 weeks to leave the best score possible.

Ties will be resolved by including the eliminated 4 weeks.

The reasoning behind the ‘worst 4 weeks edit’ is to allow people to go away or recover from injury or have exams or….whatever. It means if you miss a few weeks or have a bad run you can still end up with a competitive score.

Categories – Male and Female, Open and Intermediate (If you’ve EVER bouldered V5 or V3 or placed in one of our competitions, then you’re in open.

Duration – The first 3 problems go up on Friday 28th August and the last problems close on Thursday 3rd December (14 Weeks)

Entry Fee – $5 on registration. This comp format is designed to encourage a regular training habit and also to try and introduce climbers to the idea of working a problem.

Rules – Standard Lactic Factory protocols – Sit starts with identified start holds, controlled finish on top rail, no bonus for flashes, no dabs on mats allowed and having fun is compulsory.

The Jist – So, you come in as a part of your normal training session and you give the comp problems a try. After all, they’re new problems, why wouldn’t you? The nice thing about these problems is that there’s a reward for trying a bit harder, or trying them again on your next session. Watch the other climbers on the problem, ask for beta, practice your sequence and tick that sucker. Who knows you might end up with a prize at the end of it all. So, the best system would be to come and try the problems for the entire 14 weeks and then at the end we’ll find your highest scoring consecutive 7 weeks.
